Chin projection and profile balance in Kew, Melbourne

Chin Enhancement Melbourne

Doctor-performed chin enhancement uses structured filler to build projection where a chin sits behind the balance line a profile expects it to meet. The chin anchors the lower face, so it is planned from the whole profile, in millimetres, never from the chin alone.

What it is

What is chin enhancement?

Chin enhancement builds forward projection at the chin using structured filler placed on and around the chin point. A weak or recessed chin is a skeletal proportion, present from youth rather than an ageing change, in which the chin sits behind the vertical line a balanced profile draws down from the lips. Restoring projection, in millimetres, brings the lower face into balance.

Because the chin anchors the lower third of the face, its position changes how everything around it reads: it can make the nose look larger, blur the jaw-to-neck angle, and create the appearance of submental fullness with little fat present. That is why chin work is always planned from the whole profile. Where the recession is skeletal in scale, or the bite is significantly involved, a surgical or orthodontic pathway is the right recommendation.

  • Small, deliberate

Tiny changes in projection change how the whole profile reads.

  • Nose, lips, chin

The chin is judged against the features it balances.

  • Typical duration

    12–18 months

Structured chin work tends to last, as the area moves little.

What it treats

What does chin enhancement treat?

Chin enhancement is most often planned for a weak or recessed chin, an under-defined profile, an unbalanced lower face. The treatment only makes sense when it matches the cause of your concern; here is where it fits.

  • Weak chin & recessed profile

    Explore this concern

    Why it happens

Chin projection is set by how the jaw and chin point developed, a normal, strongly hereditary variant. No habit or exercise moves the chin point forward, and age-related bone change can make an existing tendency more visible.

    Treatment role

Structured filler placed on and around the chin point builds projection in controlled millimetres, checked against the profile line at every step, to bring the lower face into balance without surgery.

  • Double chin & lower-face fullness

    Explore this concern

    Why it happens

A recessed chin makes the area beneath it look full even when there is little fat, because the profile has no clear chin-to-neck geometry to define it.

    Treatment role

Projecting the chin redraws the line from chin to neck, so the submental area often reads flatter. Where genuine fat is also present, that is assessed and treated as a separate finding.

How it works

How does chin enhancement work?

Lower-face assessment and treatment at Aesthetic Doctors Australia Step 01

01 / 03

Reading the profile first

The classic guide drops a vertical line from the lips and reads where the chin sits against it, adjusted for your features and what you want to change. Chin enhancement is planned from that reading rather than from a template, because the aim is balance within your own face, not a borrowed profile.

02 / 03

Building projection in millimetres

Structured filler is placed on and around the chin point in small increments, rechecked side-on at each step. Working in millimetres, and stopping at balance rather than at maximum, is what keeps the result looking like your own chin rather than an obviously treated one.

03 / 03

Planning the chin with the jawline

Projection without a jawline to carry it can look odd, so chin and jawline are often planned as one structure. Where a gradual, durable build is preferred, a biostimulator can add support along the jaw. The plan is set so the chin, jaw and neck read as one balanced line.

Whether it suits you

Is chin enhancement right for you?

The two lists below are where that answer starts; it is confirmed in person, never assumed. Balanced information protects you.

May be suitable for

  • A mild to moderate recessed chin wanting more projection
  • A profile where the chin blurs into the neck
  • Apparent submental fullness driven by missing projection rather than fat
  • Patients wanting a non-surgical, reviewable option built in millimetres

May not be suitable for

  • Skeletal-scale recession or significant bite involvement, which is surgical
  • Unrealistic projection goals or a wish to copy another person's profile
  • Active infection at the site
  • Certain medical or dental histories that the assessment screens for

The assessment

What happens at a chin enhancement consultation?

Expertise shows in process. Before any recommendation, your consultation examines:

Book your assessment
  1. 01

Where the chin sits against the profile balance line

  2. 02

Whether the chin alone, or the chin and jawline together, need attention

  3. 03

Whether apparent submental fullness is really missing projection rather than fat

  4. 04

Whether the recession is skeletal in scale or bite-related and better referred

  5. 05

Your goals, and where restraint serves the face better than maximum projection

What to expect

How long does chin enhancement take to work?

The short version: immediate projection, settling and. Stage by stage:

  1. Day 0

    Treatment day

Structured filler placed and checked side-on; immediate projection, with some swelling.

  2. Days 3–7

    Early settling

Swelling and any tenderness settle and the result begins to look natural.

  3. Week 2

    Two-week review

The settled result is assessed against the profile and refined if needed.

  4. 12–18 months

    Duration

Structured chin work tends to last, as the area moves little. Maintenance usually needs less product than the first build.

Recovery

What is recovery like after chin enhancement?

Typical downtime: possible swelling, tenderness and bruising for a few days. The specifics:

What's normal afterwards

  • Swelling and tenderness for a few days
  • Occasional bruising at injection points
  • A firm feeling as the filler integrates

What to avoid

  • Firm pressure or massage on the chin unless advised
  • Strenuous exercise and high heat for 24 to 48 hours
  • Dental work in the immediate area for a short period

Risks and limits

What are the risks of chin enhancement?

No effective treatment is risk-free, and no treatment does everything. Knowing both sides is part of informed consent.

Possible side effects

  • Swelling, tenderness and occasional bruising
  • Temporary firmness or asymmetry while settling
  • Small lumps that are usually managed conservatively
  • Rare vascular events, which careful technique and immediate dissolving access are designed to manage

Limitations to understand

  • It cannot correct a skeletal-scale recession, which is a surgical concern
  • It builds projection but does not reduce genuine submental fat
  • Chasing a large skeletal gap with filler means big volumes doing a bone-shaped job badly
  • The result is durable but not permanent, so maintenance is part of the plan

The alternatives

Chin enhancement compared with the alternatives

Chin filler vs surgical chin correction

Chin enhancement with filler

  • Non-surgical, built in millimetres
  • Reviewable and reversible where hyaluronic acid is used
  • Suited to mild and moderate recession

Surgical chin correction

  • Moves the underlying bone
  • Suited to skeletal-scale recession
  • Permanent, with a surgical recovery

Which one For a mild or moderate recession, structured filler restores projection convincingly and can be reviewed and adjusted. Where the recession is skeletal in scale, or the bite is significantly involved, surgery is the right answer, and that is what will be recommended.

What it costs

What does chin enhancement cost?

You receive an itemised written quote at consultation, before committing to anything. The consultation is $75 for 45 minutes with Dr Rakib Uddin, redeemed against your treatment if you go ahead.

Confirmed at consultation once the profile is assessed and the plan is set.

What determines your quote

  • 01 Whether the chin alone or chin and jawline are treated
  • 02 The amount of product the projection needs
  • 03 Whether filler or a biostimulator is used

You commit to nothing in advance: the consultation costs nothing and the quote is written before anything is booked. If the recommendation is not to treat, that advice is the whole appointment.

Afterpay acceptedZip accepted

Afterpay and Zip are available for treatment fees at the clinic, subject to each provider's own approval and terms.

Expert questions

The questions worth asking about chin enhancement.

The questions that come up in the room, answered the way Dr Rakib answers them.

How do you decide how much projection to build?

From your profile, not a template. A line is dropped from the lips and the chin read against it, adjusted for your features and goals. Product is placed in small increments, rechecked side-on at each step, and the plan stops at balance rather than at maximum.

Will chin filler help what looks like my double chin?

Often, when the fullness is really a projection problem: bringing the chin forward redraws the line from chin to neck and the area beneath reads flatter. Where genuine submental fat is also present, that is a separate finding with its own options, and the assessment tells the two apart.

Should I treat my chin or my nose first?

Assess both, then usually the chin. Chin projection changes the visual weight of the nose, so patients who correct the chin first sometimes revise what they want done to the nose, or drop it. Treating the nose first can solve the wrong half of the profile.

How long does it last?

Structured chin work typically holds 12 to 18 months. The chin moves little, which helps longevity, and maintenance usually needs less product than the first build. A review at two weeks checks the settled result.

When is surgery the better option?

Skeletal-scale recession and significant bite involvement are surgical, and you will be told so plainly. Short of that, structured filler restores projection convincingly for most patients who present, and avoids an operation.

Is it reversible?

Where hyaluronic acid filler is used, it can be dissolved if you are unhappy or want to change the plan. A biostimulator, where used for durable jaw support, is not reversible, which is part of the discussion before treatment.
