What it is

What is Profhilo Structura?

Profhilo Structura is a hyaluronic acid injectable made by IBSA Derma, launched in October 2024 as an extension of the Profhilo range. It uses the same NAHYCO hybrid technology, combining high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, at a higher total concentration than the original.

What sets it apart is where it goes and what it acts on. Rather than remodelling the skin, it is placed deeper, at the superficial fat compartments of the cheek: the pads that thin and lose their hold early in facial ageing. Published review work describes it as the first hyaluronic acid based injectable intended to integrate with and restore that adipose tissue, with the aim of supporting the mid face laterally rather than adding projection where product is placed.

It is a regenerative treatment, not a structural filler. It is not used to build a feature, sharpen a jawline or reshape a nose, and it does not lift skin that has already descended a long way.

Profhilo Structura is most often planned for flattening of the mid face, early descent, loss of structure under good skin. The treatment only makes sense when it matches the cause of your concern; here is where it fits.

    Why it happens

    The face is padded by discrete fat compartments. From the 30s onwards the superficial compartments of the cheek lose volume and their boundaries weaken, so light falls differently across the mid face and the cheek reads as flat rather than full.

    Structura is directed at those compartments themselves, with the aim of restoring the padding that is thinning rather than placing a separate volume of gel on top of it.

    Why it happens

    When the upper compartments deflate, the tissue above no longer sits where it did. The result reads as heaviness towards the lower face long before the skin itself is the main problem.

Hybrid hyaluronic acid, higher concentration

The formulation thermally bonds high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid into a hybrid complex, at a higher total concentration than the original Profhilo. The bond is what lets a cohesive gel stay where it is placed long enough to signal the surrounding tissue without behaving like a cross-linked filler.

A deeper plane, a different target

The original works within the skin. Structura is placed beneath it, at the superficial fat compartments of the cheek. That single change of depth is what moves the treatment from skin quality to facial structure.

Restoring padding rather than adding shape

The intent is regeneration of the fat compartment, so the effect reported in the review literature is lateral support and firmness rather than projection at the injection point. That is also its limit: it cannot create a contour that was never there.

How long does Profhilo Structura take to work?

What are the risks of Profhilo Structura?

No effective treatment is risk-free, and no treatment does everything. Knowing both sides is part of informed consent.

Possible side effects

  • Swelling and tenderness at the treated points
  • Bruising, which deeper placement makes more likely
  • Rarely, nodules or asymmetry, which are reviewed and managed
  • As with any injectable placed deeply in the face, vascular events are the serious risk, which is why anatomy and technique decide safety here

What is Profhilo Structura?

Profhilo Structura is a regenerative hyaluronic acid injectable from IBSA Derma, launched in October 2024. It uses the same hybrid NAHYCO technology as the original Profhilo at a higher concentration, and is placed deeper: at the superficial fat compartments of the mid face rather than within the skin.

How is it different from regular Profhilo?

Depth and purpose. The original is placed within the skin and is associated with hydration and bio-remodelling, so it treats skin quality. Structura is placed beneath the skin at the fat compartments of the cheek, so it addresses the structural change that happens underneath. They are not interchangeable.

Is it a filler?

No. A filler is engineered to hold shape where it is placed, which is how a chin or a jawline is built. Structura is a cohesive regenerative gel intended to integrate with the fat compartment rather than sit in it as a separate volume, so the effect described in the literature is support and firmness rather than projection.

How many sessions are needed?

The treatment is given as a course of two sessions about a month apart, and reviewed once the course is complete. A single session is not the protocol the treatment was designed around.

Who is it for?

It is discussed for people whose mid face has begun to flatten, and for early heaviness in the lower face that starts with that flattening higher up. If the main problem is skin quality, or if laxity is well established, another treatment is likely to serve you better, and we will say so.

How long do the results last?

That varies between patients, and the product is recent enough that long-term data is still building. Rather than quote a figure, results are reviewed against your baseline photographs after the course and the timing of anything further is decided from what your face has actually done.

Can I have it with other treatments?

Often, yes, though sequence matters. Structura works on the structural layer, so it is commonly considered alongside a skin treatment rather than instead of one. What goes first, and how far apart, is part of the plan made at consultation.
