What it is

What is neck rejuvenation?

Neck rejuvenation is a category of treatments: not one. The neck ages through two distinct mechanisms: muscle (the platysma bands that pull the neck down and forward) and skin (thinning, drying, sun-damaged tissue that becomes crepey). Each needs its own tool.

We treat what your assessment shows is driving your concern: not what's on the next page of the menu. Plans often combine modalities sequenced for safe layering and measurable progress.

  • Different tools

    2 problems

Bands need muscle treatment; crepiness needs skin work.

  • Skin programme

    Multi-session

Skin response to bioremodelling and polynucleotides builds over weeks.

  • When appropriate

    Surgical referral

Significant skin excess needs a surgeon: not injectables.

What it treats

What does neck rejuvenation treat?

Neck rejuvenation is most often planned for vertical platysmal bands, crepey neck skin, horizontal neck lines, loss of jawline-to-neck transition. The treatment only makes sense when it matches the cause of your concern; here is where it fits.

  • Neck and chest crepiness

    Explore this concern

    Why it happens

Neck and chest skin is thin, oil-poor, and historically under-protected from the sun. It ages visibly years before the face: patients often notice it later because they look at their face in the mirror.

    Treatment role

Bioremodelling and polynucleotides thicken and remodel the skin layer: the same biology as facial skin treatments, adapted to the neck's particular thinness.

  • Lost jawline-to-neck transition

    Explore this concern

    Why it happens

Platysmal muscle pulls the soft tissue downward, while loose skin and fat-pad descent blur the jaw-to-neck line. The combined effect is the 'turkey neck' or undefined chin, neck angle.

    Treatment role

Relaxing the platysma reduces the downward pull; skin work supports the envelope. Significant excess skin requires surgery.

Results

Each case is a single composite photographed at the practice: the concern that brought the patient in, the treatment performed, and the point at which the result was reviewed. Outcomes vary from person to person. This is clinical context, not a promise.

How it works

How does neck rejuvenation work?

01 / 03

The platysma: the down-pulling muscle

The platysma is a thin sheet of muscle running from the chest up to the jaw. When it tightens vertically (as it does with age and use), it pulls the corners of the mouth down and creates the vertical band lines you see in the neck. Relaxing it with wrinkle relaxer injection lifts and softens the lower face.

02 / 03

Skin biology in the neck

Neck skin has fewer sebaceous glands, less collagen, and more sun damage than facial skin, and ages faster as a result. Bioremodelling and polynucleotides (polynucleotides) work the same way they do on facial skin, but the lower density of supportive tissue means programmes often need to be slightly more aggressive.

Doctor-level neck assessment at Aesthetic Doctors Australia Step 03

03 / 03

Knowing when not to inject

Significant skin excess and platysmal banding belong with a surgeon. Careful assessment includes explaining when a non-surgical plan will under-deliver, and a referral when appropriate. Pushing injectables onto a surgical neck rarely produces what the patient hoped for.

Whether it suits you

Is neck rejuvenation right for you?

The two lists below are where that answer starts; it is confirmed in person, never assumed. Balanced information protects you.

May be suitable for

  • Visible platysmal bands with good-to-moderate skin quality
  • Crepey neck or décolletage skin
  • Maintenance after surgical or post-significant-weight-loss recovery
  • Patients combining face and neck plans for proportionate outcomes

The assessment

What happens at a neck rejuvenation consultation?

Expertise shows in process. Before any recommendation, your consultation examines:

Book your assessment
  1. 01

Platysma visibility and band strength on clench

  2. 02

Skin quality: pinch-recoil, crepiness, sun damage

  3. 03

Excess skin: photographic and physical assessment for surgical candidacy

  4. 04

    Jawline-to-neck transition angle

  5. 05

Treatment history and patient goals (skin quality vs structural)

What to expect

How long does neck rejuvenation take to work?

The short version: wrinkle relaxer: 10–14 days, 3–4 months. Skin work: reviewed at 12 weeks. Stage by stage:

  1. Day 0

    Platysma treatment

Pinpoint injections along visible bands; full wrinkle relaxer effect at 10–14 days.

  2. Weeks 0–8

    Skin programme

Bioremodelling or polynucleotides sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart.

  3. Week 12

    Programme review

Skin response evaluated against baseline photos.

  4. 6–12 months

    Maintenance

Platysma treatment 3–4 times per year; skin work 1–2 times annually.

Recovery

What is recovery like after neck rejuvenation?

Typical downtime: pinpoint marks; possible bruising 24–72 hours. The specifics:

What's normal afterwards

  • Pinpoint injection marks
  • Mild swelling or small bleb at booster sites
  • Occasional small bruise

What to avoid

  • Aggressive skincare for 48 hours
  • Sun exposure without protection
  • Strenuous exercise for 24 hours
Complete aftercare guide

Risks and limits

What are the risks of neck rejuvenation?

No effective treatment is risk-free, and no treatment does everything. Knowing both sides is part of informed consent.

Possible side effects

  • Pinpoint marks and possible bruising
  • Mild temporary asymmetry of neck muscle action
  • Bleb-like swelling at skin-booster injection sites for up to 48 hours
  • Rarely, difficulty swallowing if wrinkle relaxer is over-treated near central neck

Limitations to understand

  • Doesn't address excess skin: that's surgery
  • Skin programmes require multiple sessions
  • Result depends partly on sun-protection going forward
  • Maintenance is required

The alternatives

Neck rejuvenation compared with the alternatives

Platysmal bands: injection vs surgery

Wrinkle relaxer injection

  • Reduces band visibility
  • No downtime
  • 3–4 months duration

Surgical platysmaplasty

  • Permanent tightening of muscle
  • Surgical recovery
  • Best for severe banding

Which one Mild-to-moderate bands respond well to injection. Severe, rope-like bands with significant skin excess need surgery. Careful assessment puts you in the right group.

What it costs

What does neck rejuvenation cost?

You receive an itemised written quote at consultation, before committing to anything. The consultation is $75 for 45 minutes with Dr Rakib Uddin, redeemed against your treatment if you go ahead.

Each treatment component is quoted; combined plans often work out better value than treating in isolation.

What determines your quote

  • 01 Whether muscle, skin or both treated
  • 02 Programme length for skin work
  • 03 Combined with facial treatment in the same plan

You commit to nothing in advance: the consultation costs nothing and the quote is written before anything is booked. If the recommendation is not to treat, that advice is the whole appointment.

Afterpay acceptedZip accepted

Afterpay and Zip are available for treatment fees at the clinic, subject to each provider's own approval and terms.

Expert questions

The questions worth asking about neck rejuvenation.

The questions that come up in the room, answered the way Dr Rakib answers them.

Will treating my face but not my neck look strange?

Often yes: patients commonly report being told they 'look good' but actually look like a young face on an old neck. Treating both as a system is part of why we discuss full-face planning rather than individual procedures.

How quickly will my neck look better?

Band treatment: 10–14 days. Skin work: meaningful improvement at 12 weeks; cumulative result builds for months after. Realistic plans don't promise transformation in weeks.

What if I need surgery, not injectables?

We'll tell you, and refer to colleagues whose work we trust. Pushing injectables onto a surgical neck is a recipe for disappointment, and we'd rather be the clinic that turned you down than the one you regret.

Can I treat the chest too?

Yes: bioremodelling and polynucleotides adapt to the décolletage. It often shows photographable improvement in skin texture and crepiness. Add it to the plan if it's a concern.

Is this the same as the 'Nefertiti lift' I've seen online?

The Nefertiti lift is one branded version of platysmal treatment focused on the lower face lift effect. We use the underlying technique selectively based on what your assessment shows: not because the term is fashionable.
