What it is

What is PRF skin treatment?

PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) skin treatment concentrates the regenerative components of your blood (platelets, white cells, fibrin matrix) and injects them into the skin or under-eye area. The fibrin scaffold releases growth factors over about a week, supporting sustained skin regeneration.

It's the second-generation evolution of PRP. Spun more slowly and without anticoagulant, PRF preserves a fibrin matrix and a higher concentration of regenerative cells. For skin and hair applications, the sustained release fits the biology better than PRP's rapid release: which is why this clinic moved from PRP to PRF.

Why PRF over PRP

Slower centrifugation without anticoagulant preserves a fibrin scaffold and a higher concentration of regenerative cells. The fibrin matrix traps platelets and releases their growth factors over roughly a week, where PRP's release completes within hours. For skin remodelling, sustained signalling beats a spike.

What the growth factors do

Platelet-derived growth factors (PDGF, VEGF, EGF, TGF among others) signal fibroblasts to ramp up collagen production, promote micro-vessel formation, and improve tissue repair. For the under-eye specifically, they support thickening of the very thin periocular skin.

How is PRF different from PRP?

Slower centrifugation, no anticoagulant, fibrin-matrix scaffold that releases growth factors over a week instead of hours. Higher regenerative cell content. For skin and hair applications, the sustained release profile fits the biology better: which is why we moved from PRP to PRF.

Does the blood draw bother people?

Standard small vial: the same as a routine blood test. Most patients tolerate it fine; those with needle anxiety should let us know so we can manage it carefully.

Will I see immediate results?

Some glow effect within 2 weeks. The structural skin improvements build over the programme and are assessed at week 12. Set expectations: this is biology, not chemistry.

Is this 'vampire facial'?

The original 'vampire facial' was PRP applied topically after microneedling. PRF injected into the skin is the medical evolution: same general principle, better technique, better evidence.

Why programme and not single session?

Cumulative regenerative response. Each session layers fresh growth-factor stimulus on tissue still responding to the last. Single sessions produce subtle change; programmes produce the substantive result.

Can PRF help my acne scars?

Yes, particularly combined with microneedling. The growth factors support proper remodelling of scar tissue; the micro-channels allow PRF to reach the dermis. Combo treatment for scarring is typically more effective than either alone.
